Al-Qalam varsity to graduate 8 sets of students in 2nd combined convocation

The Al-Qalam University, Katsina, says it plans to graduate eight sets of students in its second combined convocation on Saturday.

Prof. Nasiru Musa-Yawuri, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, said this when he briefed newsmen newsmen in Katsina on Monday , as part of preparations for the convocation.

“We are going to honour and celebrate graduates from the 2016 to 2023 sessions, which means that on Nov. 25, we are going to conferre degrees on graduates for eight sessions.

“This is to say specifically that we are preparing to ensure that graduates of this 2022/2023 session are also going to be celebrated at the convocation ceremony.

“Thursday Nov. 23, we are going to have a football match between the alumni of this university and the current students.

He said that as part of preparations for its combined second convocation, a Qur’anic recitation competition would be organised for the graduating students.
He said that the winners of the Qur’anic recitation in both the female and the male categories would receive N1 million each.

He said that the runners up and second runners up would be rewarded with different prices, saying that the competition would cut across different hizbs of the Qur’an.

“The Qur’anic recitation competition is going to be an annual tradition of the university, whenever we are going to have a convocation ceremony.
“In addition to celebrating the graduates of that year, we will also be crowning the best student in the Qur’anic recitation competition, both male and female categories.
“At the pre-convocation lecture, Dr Usman Bugaje will talk on the-out-of-school-children and the conscience of the nation, a discourse on the genesis, prognosis and solutions of the ‘Almajirci’ phenomenon’.

“On Nov. 25, will be the grand ceremony, where about 9,894 graduates would be conferred with first degrees holders, cutting across 31 different disciplines.

“And about 116 postgraduate students, some of whom would be conferred with doctor of Philosophy degrees in business administration, accounting, english literature, economics, Islamic studies and political science,” he said.

The VC also said that four eminent Nigerians would be conferral with honorary degrees at the ceremony.

He said that the receipts would include Alhaji Abdulmumin Kabir-Usman, the Emir of Katsina, Emir of Kazaure, Alhaji Najib Hussaini-Adamu, Alhaji Sani Zangon-Daura, and Alhaji Abdulsamad Isiyaka-Rabiu.

“All security arrangements have been completed to ensure the hitch free convocation ceremony,” he said.
